The new 11-in-1 OWC Thunderbolt 5 Dock promises to maximize the potential of the latest Thunderbolt 5 technology for computers like M4 Pro and M4 Max MacBook Pro, OWC said Monday.
The dock, scheduled to begin shipping in July with a price tag of $329.99, is one of the first comprehensive Thunderbolt 5 solutions available for Apple users looking to expand their connectivity options.
OWC Thunderbolt 5 Dock
Like only a few other Thunderbolt 5 options on the market so far, the new OWC Thunderbolt 5 Dock offers an impressive port selection. It provides users with 11 different connection options through a single Thunderbolt cable. Most notably, the dock includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports capable of handling bi-directional data speeds up to 80Gb/s and display bandwidth up to 120Gb/s. That lets users create three separate device chains without interference between them.
For creative professionals working with multiple displays, the dock supports up to three 8K displays at 60Hz with DSC enabled (or 30Hz without DSC) on Windows systems, while Mac users can connect up to two 6K displays. This makes it an ideal companion for the M4 Pro and M4 Max MacBook Pro models that first introduced Thunderbolt 5 to Apple’s ecosystem.

Beyond its Thunderbolt capabilities, the dock features a comprehensive port selection including two USB-A ports operating at 10Gb/s, one USB-A port at 5Gb/s, 2.5GbE Ethernet for faster networking, microSD and SD UHS-II card reader slots for media professionals, and a 3.5mm audio combo jack for audio needs.
Power delivery is another highlight, with the dock providing up to 140W to connected devices—enough to keep even the most power-hungry MacBook Pro models fully charged while connected to multiple peripherals and displays.
The aluminum fanless design ensures silent operation, maintaining the premium aesthetic and noise-free environment Apple users have come to expect.
Is an upgrade necessary?
For existing Thunderbolt dock owners, the upgrade path isn’t necessarily urgent unless you have Thunderbolt 5 accessories to take advantage of the increased bandwidth. However, the dock is fully backward compatible with previous Thunderbolt generations and USB-C devices, making it a future-proof investment for those planning to upgrade their peripherals over time.
The real benefits will be seen by users connecting multiple high-speed devices simultaneously. For example, media professionals could connect two USB-4 CFexpress Type B card readers alongside fast external storage like OWC’s Thunderblade X12, achieving combined read and write speeds exceeding 6000MB/s. That dramatically reduces the time needed to transfer large media files.
OWC will showcase the Thunderbolt 5 Dock at Computex Taipei from May 20-23. Preorders open soon on OWC’s website. The dock will begin shipping in early July.
