This past week, Team Vitality stomped FaZe Clan in a 3:1 route at the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025. With that victory, they officially secured back-to-back majors in 2025 after taking home the BLAST.tv Austin Major earlier this year.
The team’s star Zywoo has already established himself as the unchallenged best player in the CS2 era, but now that they have gone back-to-back in a single year we have to ask the question: Did Team Vitality just put up the greatest season ever?

Did Vitality have the best Counter-Strike season of all time?
Team Vitality is heading into 2026 as the unquestioned kings of CS2. Two majors and nine trophies in a single year is unheard of… right? Well, not exactly.
Back in 2018-2019, Astralis went on a generational run, winning three consecutive Majors, along with dozens of other trophies. They were on top of the game, the unquestioned masters, for over a year — the longest streak of dominance witnessed in the game so far.
This year, we wrote our name into Counter-Strike history.

It would likely be a stretch to suggest that Team Vitality has surpassed Astralis as the GOAT. However, if you break it down by season, Team Vitality likely does have the greatest individual year on record.
While Astralis achieved 10 trophies in 2018, they actually only won a single major that year. Vitality won 9 trophies this year, but two of them are majors. On paper, that makes Vitality’s 2025 season more impressive than Astralis’ 2018 season.
Of course, there weren’t two majors to be won in 2018, so it’s hard to say if, given the chance, Astralis wouldn’t have achieved the same result.
The fact is that Astralis redefined Counter-Strike. I am not so certain that Team Vitality has changed the game in the same way, though they have clearly become absolute masters of it. It may be a technical victory, but technically speaking, Team Vitality deserves its flowers for pulling off the most decorated season of all time.
But regardless of where you stand on the question of who had the best year between peak Astralis and current Vitality, Team Vitality is heading into the 2026 season with a chance to continue their streak and maybe even make a run at Astralis’ title as the greatest CS team of all time.
