Two Hundred and Ninety Million Skill Points

Published on:

Well, that was fast.  I only hit 280 million skill points back in August.  Usually, even if I focus, there is usually about a seven month gap between these posts.  But I looked at my characters this past weekend and realized I was there.

The current state of skill points – January 2026

I have been in a bit of a push to get some skills trained over the last month or three, so I do not have a pile of unallocated skill points sitting around like I did last time.

From the image above, Wilhelm is only short 10,000 skill points being displayed, and Escher Alias has 50,000 skill points sitting unallocated.  Percy has 1,189,953 unallocated skill points.  Adding in those, which are not displayed on the login screen, I can an account wide total of almost 410 million skill points.

Wilhelm Arcturus - 290,151,750
Escher Alias - 89,442,489
Percy Dovetonsiles - 29,640,530

Total - 409,234,769

You will notice that Escher is training in parallel with Wilhelm.  That is because I bought some Omega time when they were tossing in some multiple character training licenses and I had some skills I wanted to get him into without derailing plans for Wilhelm.

Those plans were helped along by generous amounts of skill points handed out by CCP as part of two events, the Winter Nexus and the Crimson Harvest, along with the Catalyst expansion.  Put those on top of the daily and monthly AIR opportunities skill point opportunities and it starts to add up.

In addition, I made a point of using all the cerebral accelerator drops I got for the two events, supplementing from the market when I ran out.  And I was diligent in leaving Wilhelm in his high grade Amulet clone, which is +4 to each attribute for the full set, whenever I logged off back in our Keepstar in Insmother just to maximize every moment of training.

And what was my goal here?

The Imperium announced a new doctrine for the new year.  We are going to undock and use carriers as a main fleet option.  This came about due to the changes to carriers that came with the Catalyst expansion, and I am here for it.

I am here for it because I bought a carrier back in 2013 and haven fired a shot in anger with it since then.  That was long enough ago that it pre-dates faxes, the change from drones to fighters, and the great big capital ship nerf that came with the Phoebe update.  I was complaining I was limited to jumping 14 light years and I probably only had Jump Drive Calibration 4.

I went from 85-B52 to 0P-F3K in one jump, something that would require a mid-point these days.

It isn’t that I haven’t used the carrier.  It made it all the way down to Delve after our defeat in the Casino War, making the great crossing in Rakapas that separated those with JDC5 from the rest of the pack, and has hauled sub caps and what not to various deployments and has made the two additional migrations since then, first to Tenerifis and then to Insmother.

Otherwise I never did carrier ratting, back when that was a thing, or went on a capital op with it.  I have probably refit the damn thing four or five times over the years, spending more than I paid for the hull back in 2013 (1.2 billion ISK) a few times over.

I think I even have internalized how fighters work sufficiently to join in on a carrier op.  I always forget that you have to open up the navigation UI for the fighters… but I have practiced that enough times now that I remember.

Anyway, that was the plan.  So where did the skill points go?  The groups with the asterisks are the ones that changed since last time.

Spaceship Command always gets some skill points.  There were the new ORE mining destroyers that I put some points into, if only to be able to fly all the subcaps.  Those also got me to put some skills into Resource Processing, though mostly to get the mining crit ability, which was super useful during the Winter Nexus event

Gunnery was likely dedicated to Triglavian stuff.  I had to dump some saved up skill points into that to use the Tech II entropic disintigrator for the Kikimora.  I also put some points towards the Zirnitra, that being the favored dreadnought right now.  That was likely some of the Spaceship Command points as well, the Zirn.

Drones… well, that is where the fighter skills are, and I needed to catch up on those to be able to use the doctrine fit.

Navigation… carriers have gotten some bonuses, like being able to conduit jump some other ships as well as being able to micro jump.  I had to catch up on those too.  Fleet support and being able to boost is part of the doctrine.  I had most of those up to tech II already, but I had a couple to finish up.

Then there was Structure Management, where I put in a couple of levels of Mercenary Den management when that was becoming a thing.  We’ll see if that is a waste or not.

And, finally, there is Targeting, which saw an increase, but I couldn’t tell you what.  But I have all the skills there up to V now, so it likely won’t change again unless CCP adds something there.

So there we go.  All that, mostly in pursuit of of maybe using my carrier some day.

And I still have enough queued up to round out carrier related skills that I will like stay on course to 300 million skill points.  Then I’ll have to see what CCP adds with the next expansion.

As always, for those who want to know the history of this post… well, the series goes all the way back to 2007.

Until the next milestone, fly… however it makes you feel alive.
